Key West is the southern most city in the United States and feels like it's own country. A large part of the original population of Key West emigrated from the Bahamas. These bahamians were known as "Conchs" and today residents of Key West refer to themselves as conchs as well. One of the most famous conchs was Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway wrote many of his most famous novels while living in the Keys. Because of Key West's unique location 90 miles north of cuba and sitting on a deep water channel that connects the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, It has also been a strategic Military Post for the United States. Today tourists love visiting Key West for it's quirky laid back life style and surprisingly happening night life. Duval street that runs through the heart of Key West and is loaded with bars, restaurants and live music. Malory Square is famous for it's sunset celebration where local artists and street performers put on quite a show while the sun sets magnificently to the west.
