About Lauderdale by the Sea
Lauderdale By The Sea is a small beach town located just north of Fort Lauderdale on a barrier island. There are roughly 6000 full time residents and about 15,000 residents during the winter months. The city is comprised mostly of Intracoastal and Oceanfront condominiums and hotels. Lauderdale by the Sea has a quaint downtown area located at Commercial Boulevard and A1A. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, to eat and drink at. In the evenings you can find live music at many of the restaurants including the Aruba Cafe located directly on the beach. This is a happening happy hour spot for locals. In 1997 Lauderdale By The Sea was declared the Shore Diving capital of Florida. Right off the beach there is a snorkel trail about a 100 yards where there is plenty of marine life to see. Lauderdale By The Sea is also home to the SS Copenhagen. This steamship from the 1800's sank off the coast and has been designated an official underwater archaeological preserve. The fishing pier has long been a staple of the seaside community. Fisherman take full advantage of 876 foot pier that extends out into the Atlantic Ocean. The Pelican Hopper is a free air-conditioned shuttle that helps residents and visitors to get a around town.
